"Charles M. Montague went to Chicago yesterday to see his mother who was in the Iroquois theatre when the fire started. His mother is badly burned about the face and right hand and her left shoulder is bruised. She was in the second row from the front in the first balcony, from which death trap only about twenty of the 600 who were there escaped....she was taken to the home of Mrs. Orson McKay [her sister] from whom she had become separated in the panic." Mrs. Montague was widowed in February 1903.
