As a young Chicago Tribune reporter on the scene, Clifford Raymond helped remove bodies from Iroquois Theatre after the fire. In 1903 Cliff was newly married (December 29, 1903 ) to Louis Streed.

Clifford Samuel Raymond joined the Chicago Tribune as a reporter in 1898. Until 1907 he was a reporter of activities on the state legislature in Springfield. From 1907 until his retirement in 1942, he wrote editorials for the Tribune, becoming chief editorial writer in 1939. During his lifetime, Raymond wrote many short stories and a number of books, including One of Three (1919), Clifford and John's Almanack (1921), The Men on the Dead Man's Chest (1930), The Honorable John Hale (1946), and Sad Azrael and Other Poems (1947).
