Daughter of Edward and Kate "Kitty" (Bickford) Payson, Ruth was 15 years old at the time of her death. Ruth's cousins, Glenn and Helen Bickford, were also killed in the fire.

Ruth is buried in the same plot with her uncle and aunt, Joseph and Laura Payson. Burial date January 3, 1904.
